Daegu Catholic University graduate student Mongchot was selected as an artist supporting the Asan Gallery incubator project
ASAN VERSE announced that the first solo exhibition of the artist Mon Show (real name: Woo Hyeon-myung), ‘MONGCHOT-PARODY’, will be held at the main exhibition hall of the Asan Gallery from December 13 to January 8, 2023.
This exhibition was held after a year long preparation process as the work of student Woo Hyeon-myung, who was exhibited before graduation from Daegu Catholic University a year ago, was selected for the incubator project of Asan Gallery's new artist support program.
Asan Gallery's incubator project is a scholarship support program that selects promising students from art colleges and related graduate schools and supports them in purchasing works and holding exhibitions. Selected students here can receive various support benefits such as regular individual exhibitions, participation in various art fairs, and studio support when they continue their activities as artists according to their will after graduation.
Mongchot is the name of Woo Hyeon-myung's artist activity (stage name), and is also the name of a penguin that appears in the artist's works. The artist works by parodying key scenes from children's books, movies, and the Bible, as well as famous paintings and famous photos.
Choose familiar scenes from well-known paintings or movies, such as The Creation of Adam, The Last Supper, The Scream, The Gleaners, Ssireum, Me-in-do, E.T, Star Wars, and Home Alone. And the characters appearing in it were replaced with penguins and reinterpreted as animation work.
Moon Jeong-mi, director of the Asan Gallery, who planned this exhibition, said, "Mongchot's paintings have the power to bring adults back to childhood and children to play freely in the land of imagination."
